Named for the famous 14th century Sufi saint, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, the Nizamuddin Dargah & Heritage tour offers a look at Mughal monuments and introduces you to Sufi music and culture. We begin our tour with Chaunsath Khamba (The 64 Pillars), a Mughal era monument, from where we visit Urdu poet Ghalib’s Academy, and the museum therein. Stepping our way across a busy local bazaar, we next go to the dargah (Islamic shrine and burial place) of Sufi musician, Hazrat Inayat Khan, where today music lessons are given and community welfare programs are held. Walking through the Nizamuddin basti, you will seeg daily life in this area. Our next stop will be Atgah Khan’s Tomb, dating back to Emperor Akbar’s rule. We will also spend a bit of time at the Nizamuddin dargah complex with its mosque, historical tombs (including that of Inayat Khan, founder of the Sufi movement, and Mughal Princess Jahanara, beloved daughter of Emperor Shah Jahan) and step-well. A Qawwali performance awaits visitors to the durgah.
