Dating back to the 1600s and the height of the Mughal dynasty, Chandni Chowk is Delhi’s most bustling marketplace, an area thronged with merchants of all kinds, including silversmiths, clothing vendors and sellers of traditional snacks and sweets. This walk through the Old Delhi market area provides a glimpse into the culture and traditions of the city.

We will stroll through the Dariba Kalan (the silver market), Kinari Bazaar (wedding market) and Paranthewali Galli (Lane of Parathas), a very famous landmark known for making all kinds of stuffed parathas. Gurdwara Sees Ganj Sahib, built at the site where Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, was beheaded for refusing to convert to Islam, will be part of our visit. We will walk past Jama Masjid, Delhi’s most famous mosque and also see Hindu temples, Jain derasars and churches that line the area and are testament to India’s diversity.

Please Note: Many of the religious monuments require covered heads for both men and women – please do carry a scarf or large handkerchief for this purpose. Shoes must be removed before entering places of worship. The Jain temples do not permit any leather items (handbags, belts, etc.) on the premises.

Tour Details: Runs at 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. from Jama Masjid Gate Number 3. Available 6 days a week (not Sundays).
