Highlights of Jodhpur

    Spend the day taking in the Highlights of Jodhpur. This full day guided tour will get you to Mehrangarh Fort (founded in 1459). The fort affords spectacular views of the city, and there is no shortage of stories about royal life. Next, make a stop at Jaswant Thada, Jodhpur royalty’s cenotaph constructed out of pure white marble. Follow this with a visit to the famed Umaid Bhavan Palace, one of India’s last great palaces, constructed pre-Independence. Using elements of Art Deco alongside Indian architecture in its visage, the palace boasts of a breathtaking 347 rooms, and had the distinction of being the world’s largest private residence when it was completed. The full day tour also includes a walk through the Ghantaghar (Clock Tower) area, Jodhpur's busiest and largest marketplace (details below). For the avid photographer, we’ll head over to Brahmapuri, which is home to the blue painted residences that give the city one of its nicknames.

Ghanta Ghar Market Walk

  The Ghanta Ghar market walk takes you around the bustling marketplace, (Jodhpur’s largest) through the clock tower (“Ghanta ghar”) area and offers a glimpse into a variety of produce, including the wholesale grain and bamboo markets, small shops selling milk, paneer and other milk products, fresh fruits and vegetables, and of course, beautiful and colorful traditional clothing, fabric and jewellery. You’ll make a stop for chai at one of the innumerable little tea shacks, and get to mingle with locals doing their shopping – the women in their bright attire and the men in their intricately tied turbans, giving you a firsthand look at the communities that call the Marwar region home.

The People of Rural Marwar - Jeep Safari

    A half day (5 hour) tour by jeep that takes you to the areas surrounding Jodhpur, into the dry Thar desert. Travellers will meet the many communities that make up the rural Marwar ecosystem. Through this Jeep Safari, get a glimpse of desert wildlife, including migratory winter birds during season.   Use this opportunity to interact with the Bishnois. They are considered to be the world’s oldest environmentalists. The trees and animals are sacred to them. Through the duration of the Rural Marwar Safari, you will meet many such communities of local farmers, potters, weavers, artisans and people from various castes and religions that call these dry lands home. Their lifestyle is fascinating to witness and exhilarating to live!
