The Karni Mata Temple is unique in that it is home to over 20,000 rats. Rats are considered sacred to Karni Ma, the patron goddess of Bikaner’s royal family, to whom the temple is dedicated. This tour takes you to Deshnok, less than an hour away from Bikaner, where this temple is located. You will find worshippers from across the state and curious tourists, attracted by the sight of the rats. On the way to the temple, we will visit the royal cenotaphs at Devi Kund.
You will also get a glimpse of rural life in Rajasthan as we pass through some villages on the way. Please do be aware that there are a lot of rats running around the temple and if this is something that does not appeal to you, you should reconsider this trip. As it is a place of worship with many devotees, the peace and quiet of the sanctum must be maintained. Also, leather items, including wallets and belts, are not allowed in the temple, neither is photography of the idol.
