Wildlife Safari

The two wildlife Sanctuaries of Tholpetty and Muthanga in Wayanad offer
excellent wildlife spotting. The animal population of the sanctuary
ranges from Asiatic Elephant, Tiger, Panther, Jungle cat, Civet ,Nilgiri
Langur, Wild dog, Wild gaur, Spotted deer, Sambar,
Malabar squirrel
and Bear. Reptiles like monitor lizard and a variety of snakes are
seen. Peacock, Babblers, Cuckoos, Owl, Wood pecker and Jungle fowl are
only a few among the different types of birds seen in the area.
Among the animals, Asiatic elephant occupies the prime position.
Inter-state seasonal migration of elephant is common. The tiger
population of the sanctuary is fairly good. Frequent sightings are
reported from Tholpetty, Rambur and Mavinhalla areas.
The 24 kms safari through the forest last up to two hours.
Our guides know the best watering holes where animals gather, the best grazing spots where spotted deer roam free. Apart from the forest guards and tribal guides, we will arrange to have naturalists accompany the group.
Trekking Safaris are also possible with advanced notice.

Ideal time November – May. Spotting becomes uncommon during rainy
seasons
Duration: 2-3 hours, 25-30 kms within the forests.
Distance from base camp: 35 kms to Muthanga and 55 kms to Tholpetty Wildlife Santuary.
