The Castle of Good Hope, Adderley Street, The Bo-Kaap, The Company Gardens, St. George’s Mall and Green Point Stadium and Eco-Park.
Visit the Green Point Stadium, the impressive newly built sports venue that co-hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The newly landscaped Green Point Biodiversity Eco-Park is a must see for green enthusiasts and the Green Point Lighthouse happens to be the oldest working lighthouse in South Africa!
The Backpack Community Tour (price subject to change depending on group size)
A full day trip which includes a Bo Kaap walking tour, a visit to District 6 Museum, Lunch at the Eastern Bazaar and then an afternoon reading/playing soccer with the Kids at GCU (Great Commission United).
GCU was set up in 2001 by Mario van Niekerk. Born and bred in Heideveld, Mario had witnessed many of the community’s problems first hand and felt passionate about helping many of the area’s youth and keeping them off the streets. Hence the Soccer Academy was born. GCU is not just a football club, it has expanded into a wider range of community activities including rope skipping, tutoring, life skills, school for dropout, mentorships and way out of being trapped in the cycle of gangs and drugs.
80% of the tour price is going directly to Nizaam’s startup business and Mario’s Community Project.
Mario and Michelle have been supporting the Heideveld community with little assistance for the past 10 years. The Backpack & Africa Travel Centre has donated approximately R350 000 to Mario’s Community Project and the Rope Skipping Project since 2009 and has found many donors for team tracksuits, competitions and end of year medal ceremonies and Christmas parties. By joining this tour you will be making a difference.

"We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole World. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity"
