A to Z of Responsible travel is an attempt to demystify Responsible Travel. Co-created and crowd sourced through collaborations with many people from all around the world, we believe these values help us relate to Responsible Tourism than many academic definitions. This is our way to sketch and write what “Creating Better Places for People to Live & for People to Visit” actually means in implementation.
Conceptualised by Zainab Kakal and Gopinath Parayil(Gopi), the beta version of A to Z of RT campaign was launched during India’s first Biennale – The Kochi Muziris Biennale 2012 . An online campaign was done for 26 days where each day a new letter and it’s related values where celebrated mostly through the facebook group Responsible Tourism Network. Sketches were done by two design students Askhan Ish and Sudeepti Tucker from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India. Second phase of the backdrop for an interactive installation at ITB Berlin 2013 was completed by Ameya Kulkarni. These were later converted into separate post cards by Binit Basa of Triature with text from Zainab and Jeremy Smith. The official launch of A to Z of Responsible Travel was the 2013 ITB Berlin. We are glad to see these cards presently being used by Universities, Communities and Travel Trade partners as a tool for communicating responsible tourism.
The initiative also won the prestigous Das Golden Stadttor award as well as is currently long listed for the World Travel Market London – world responsible tourism awards under the category for ‘advocacy campaigns’. These are designed using common creative license and you are welcome to use it while acknowledging us.
